Foreground, Middle ground, BackgroundPosted: February 9, 2011
2nd graders learned about the placement of objects in a work of art. They painted hills then added snow people. Basic stuff until they had to dress them remembering that everything gets smaller as the object goes into the background. Once the hats, scarves and gloves were added next came the STORM!!! Loading up the toothbrushes and we had “snow”!
I also try to educate our parents as well. When I put up a display of the kids work I try to include a write up to let parents know all the concepts that their young artists learned. So this way they actually understand what went into the art. Hopefully they don’t just see Snow people paintings, now they can have a conversation with their kids about foreground, middle ground and background!
